Dr Mishel Shahid

Dr Mishel Shahid is the Manager, Systems Science at the Prevention Centre and a member of the Centre’s Scientific Advisory Committee. Mishel brings a diverse background as a clinically trained dentist with a dedicated focus on epidemiology and evidence-based research. Before joining the Prevention Centre, Mishel was a Research Fellow in the public health and economic modelling team at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Griffith University.

Mishel’s expertise lies in evidence synthesis using systems thinking approaches, guiding her through the intricacies of public health and chronic disease prevention. Her skills extend to health economic modelling for policy-approved interventions and causal modelling for the assessment of health services. Beyond her professional endeavours, she volunteered as an events director for the Gold Coast Association of Postgraduates at Griffith University, where she facilitated networking, career development, and social events for postgraduates from diverse backgrounds.

She holds a PhD in Public Health and Epidemiology from Griffith University and a Masters in Dental Public Health from the University of Dundee, UK.
