The Prevention Centre celebrates a remarkable year of growth for the Collaboration for Enhanced Research Impact (CERI) which now includes 11 Centres for Research Excellence with SPHERE CRE the latest member to join. We also continue the first birthday celebrations for the ‘new’ Prevention Centre website and the popularity of systems thinking. Our research on economic costs of alcohol-related harms has developed an interactive costing tool to estimate impact at the local government level and a new Prevention Works podcast discusses health literacy for CALD communities. The Prevention Centre marks the start of the International Congress on Obesity (ICO) with a call for determined action and bold leadership on the rapidly growing burden of obesity. The Prevention Centre celebrated the Global Week for Action on NCDs during September and called for a National Strategy on Physical Activity when presenting the results of a four-year project on preventing chronic disease. We also released the findings of a research project on improving the implementation of CVD risk assessment and launched a new project to build economic modelling on alcohol interventions. This was also the month to celebrate the successful recipients of our new strategic grant program and congratulate CERI members recognised by the Australian Research Council and the NHMRC.
