Dr Kelly Garton from the University of Auckland’s School of Population Health will give an overview of the evidence collected so far on the outcomes of Ka Ora, Ka Ako. She will connect these short-term findings to the broader evidence base on free school lunch programs found in the international literature.

Dr Pippa McKelvie-Sebileau, founding member of the Nourishing Hawke’s Bay: He wairua tō te kai research team, will discuss the impact of hunger on school achievement, presenting the findings from large-scale international assessments that show high levels of hunger for students in Aotearoa New Zealand and an associated lag in achievement.

Professor Boyd Swinburn’s, co-chair of Health Coalition Aotearoa, will present on the effectiveness, economy, efficiency, equity, and cost-effectiveness credentials of Ka Ora, Ka Ako with evidence presented across 21 criteria.
