Service mapping can provide critical information to help us make more informed decisions when planning health and other human services. But how are these maps built and used?

This short course will introduce you to the tools used to map and classify health, disability and social services in your region using a Health Ecosystems Research (HER) approach, and how these tools can be used to inform policy and planning.

You’ll also gain the practical skills to classify, analyse and interpret patterns of service provision using the Description and Evaluation of Services and DirectoriEs (DESDE) service classification system. DESDE has provided the building blocks of maps/atlases of health, disability and social services in 20 Australian health areas since 2014 and has been used in research and planning in 35 countries.
