Mr Chiu is a statistician at the Sax Institute. With a background in mathematics, applied statistics and biostatistics, he previously worked at the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) and The Hunter Research Foundation (HRF) with a focus on statistical consultation in academia and health. His research interests include statistical analysis, geospatial visualisation, RCT design and simulations.

Simon is currently undertaking a PhD, aiming to develop a national systems dynamics model exploring complex interactions between biological, social, economic, generational effects that contribute to obesity prevalence in Australia. This model will enable researchers to test and describe the trends in obesity using current and hypothesised interventions and policies.
