Professor Alison Hayes

Alison Hayes is Professor of Health Economics at the University of Sydney School of Public Health, where she holds a teaching /research position. She teaches Health Economic Evaluation and Advanced Health Economic Evaluation at a Masters level, and provides economic evaluation expertise to a range of research projects.

Alison is an internationally recognised health economist, with a track record in development of cutting-edge methods for health economic modelling of chronic disease. Alison published one of the first economic evaluations of an early childhood obesity prevention program and was was the first to use ‘big data’ to show that in the first five years of life, children with obesity have higher healthcare costs than their healthy weight counterparts. She led the development of the first microsimulation model for obesity progression in Australian children, which predicts costs and benefits of interventions during childhood and has been used to evaluate a number of preventive interventions.

Alison is co-lead for the health economics stream of EPOCH-Translate CRE.
