Nick Barker-Pendree

Administration Officer
The Australian Prevention Partnership Centre

February 2015

Please describe your role: Coordinator, communicator, organiser, admin-invoice-guru and general PA to the Prevention Centre team and associates.

Nick Barker-Pendree

I’m most looking forward to … being a small cog in the Sax machine and watching health policies change or be implemented as a result of work here.

I’m interested in the work of the Prevention Centre because … heart disease, obesity and healthy living are relevant to everyone – especially in a modern society that demands we “have things right now”, encouraging poor lifestyle choices such as fast food.

I am always learning that … everything is connected! (Profound, I know)

Before my current position, my most memorable role was … founding and directing my own female pop choir, The Decibelles, who are still alive and kicking in Melbourne. It’s quite thrilling to boss around 40 women in one room. I still sing on their rehearsal tracks.

When I’m not at work I can be found … making silly faces in front of the camera for TV ads. Look out for me in the next few months promoting GoggleBox, Foxtel and Actron Airconditioning. You can also see me in an ad for University of Technology Sydney showing at a cinema in Newtown in inner Sydney.

Most people don’t know that I … have lived in the US and The Netherlands, speak fluent Dutch, used to be a competitive triathlete and went to an English boarding school.

I would tell my 16-year-old self … to get a good shrink as early as possible.

The talent I would most like to have is … to be able to play music on the piano having heard it just once. This would make me such a hit at parties.

My motto is … do the best you can and when you know better, you do better.

I try to keep healthy by … being a sports freak. I run 10km three times a week, train three times a week with the Sloths Dragon Boat Team under the Anzac Bridge at Pyrmont and work out three times a week at the gym.
