Professor Lyndal Trevena is a general practitioner and Professor of Primary Health Care in the School of Public Health at the University of Sydney. She commenced her academic career in 2001, after 15 years in clinical practice.

She has published and taught on evidence-based medicine, curriculum design and problem-based learning and primary health care both nationally and internationally. Her research has included health issues for the homeless, strategies to improve health literacy and preventive healthcare implementation in high-resource primary care settings in Australia, UK, USA, Malaysia and Canada and low-resource settings in India and Timor-Leste.

Professor Trevena represents Australia on the steering committee for the International Patient Decision Aids Standards and the international engagement committee of the Society for Medical Decision-Making. In 2014, the US Foundation for Informed Medical Decisions named her one of 25 Shared Decision-Making Champions worldwide. She also supervises higher degree research students and mentors’ postdoctoral fellows

Professor Trevena provides pro bono clinical services to the Asylum Seeker Centre NSW, reflecting her special interest in working with vulnerable populations. She also co-leads an NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence Ask, Share. Know: Rapid Evidence for General Practice Decisions.
