Mr Carrello graduated from Curtin University in Western Australia in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science (Physiotherapy) and has worked in a range of clinical areas in the public system both locally (Royal Perth Hospital) and in the UK with the NHS. He has held senior roles in trauma, plastics/hand therapy and emergency.

He completed a Masters of Public Health at the University of Sydney in 2018, which included contributions to a research project identifying barriers and facilitators to the implementation of the Pathway to Co-morbidity care program, established in NSW regional and metropolitan health districts to provide best practice care for co-morbid mental health and substance use patients.

He has received a Prevention Centre scholarship to undertake a PhD in health economics and life course modelling of obesity from adolescence into adulthood.
