Michelle Morgan is a policy officer with the Tasmanian Department of Health and a PhD candidate at the University of Tasmania, supported by the Prevention Centre. Michelle’s research is exploring a place-based systems thinking approach to chronic disease prevention.

In the final stage of Michelle’s empirical data collection, she facilitated a participatory systemic inquiry process in Tasmania’s remote West Coast local government area. This process included the creation and interrogation of a rich picture with community stakeholders.

In this qualitative research community of practice, Michelle will provide an overview of the rich picture method and how it relates to systems thinking and qualitative research, share examples of how rich pictures have been used in preventive health research and practice, and share her process and experience of using the rich picture method with the West Coast community.
