The struggle behind the success – why one third of people register but don’t attend parkrun

parkrun organises free, weekly, timed five kilometre events in parks across the world. Beginning as a time trial back in 2004 with just thirteen people, parkrun now attracts around 400,000 people every weekend across 22 countries worldwide.
The seminar will feature Glen Turner, from parkrun’s global Health and Wellbeing Team, Dr Lindsey Reece and Dr Katherine Owen (University of Sydney) on understanding the barriers associated with participation, and a real-life story about how a local person from Victoria overcame her fears and attended parkrun.
A facilitated Q and A will explore next steps for ensuring parkrun remains inclusive for everyone, and consider how COVID-19 will shape these barriers into the future.
