Many of the risk factors for non-communicable diseases are immensely profitable products. This makes it extremely challenging for governments, public health organisations, and others to design and implement policies that protect and promote public health.
The CDoH is an area of research that explores how businesses and other commercial actors influence health. Much of this literature focuses on the harms, for example predatory marketing to children, lobbying governments to block policies, the gig economy, tax evasion and more.
