Director’s update

Last month, the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) publicly announced $7.7 million in funding for the Prevention Centre, which enables us to continue to operate for another five years as an NHMRC Partnership Centre for Better Health.

This funding will be matched by our new funding partners to a total of $15 million over five years. We are currently in the process of formalising contracts with the other funding partners and expect the funding arrangements to be finalised in coming months.

We are reconstituting our Governance Authority, which will meet for the first time in September to discuss our priorities and sign off on the new work plan. Once the work plan has been approved, we will then release a list of new projects and project leads for the first three years.

Building a prevention community in Australia remains a key part of our mission. We are committed to bringing stakeholders working in prevention together nationally, regardless of whether or not they are specifically funded by Prevention Centre projects.

Next year, we look forward to launching a full schedule of external events open to Australia’s prevention community, including theme-based meetings and a National Prevention Research Forum.

I’d like to thank you for your interest in the Prevention Centre over the last five years, and welcome you to stay engaged into the future.
