Ms Barakat has studied medical science and has a Master of Public Health. She is an Mphil candidate, based at the University of Sydney and supported by the Prevention Centre.
Ms Barakat is passionate about evolving attitudes in public health. She is interested in preventive health and determining whether improvements in disease prevention can occur by garnering public support for actions by society and governments.
Her research, which is part of a Prevention Centre project exploring messaging and story telling in the communication of prevention, is focusing on testing health message on social media platforms to identify appealing methods to communicate prevention policies or programs.
