The unexpected death of our Deputy Director and friend Sonia Wutzke has been a painful loss to all of us in the Prevention Centre.
Sonia was a core contributor and leader in many of the activities of the Centre and its relationships with partners and investigators. She bought to the position an interesting mix of expert and management experience and an incredible ability to get things to happen. We miss her greatly.
A complex and dynamic Centre requires a matching approach in leadership and management, one that is able to respond rapidly to changing environments and needs. Who would have predicted that within weeks of the announcement of our creation, our then principle funder, the Australian National Preventive Health Agency, would cease to exist?
We are now advertising for the Deputy Director’s position. Almost five years since the Prevention Centre started, our leadership team has a better sense of what is needed in this position. We are deliberately not being too prescriptive because the right candidate might come from a health policy, practice or research background.
We are not looking for another Sonia – that is impossible – but we are seeking the attributes of flexibility, responsiveness and intellectual creativity that she demonstrated. We appreciate your help in finding this person.
